Regular Meeting –
Sunday 4th October, 7 pm
Meeting Minutes
Attendees: Bill Aubert, Alison Aubert, Steve
Drewnowski, Guy Garcia, Frances Garcia, Jeff Dwelley (via Phone) Andrea
Kett, Bob Silva, Darlene Silva, Steven Ferguson, Dean Miner
1.
Business Meeting
·
Approval of Minutes from 9/13/09 meeting – Motion by Andy
Kennedy to approve as revised, 2nd by Andrea Kett, carried unanimously
to approve the minutes.
·
Next General Meeting: Sunday 1st November
2.
President’s/DUSD update
·
CAJ bleachers – Mark Sanchez is putting together a bid,
hopefully to receive this week.
·
Using volunteers to help with the work could be an issue
from an insurance perspective, but there are still ongoing discussions
regarding this with School/District, to understand next step in the
process.
3.
Sports Operations Update
·
Gates are going well. The AD reduced Gate fees from $4/$2
to $3/$1 based on feedback from a few parents. Prices for Football
games remain unchanged.
·
Gate $6580 on first football game, don’t have 2nd
home game gate number yet. Possibly up to ~$2000 on other gates at this
point (Volleyball, Soccer, Water Polo)
·
Question from members: Is the money from Gate going to the
teams that bring in the gate money? No, beyond $32,000 target
incremental gate money will go ASB athletics fund, which is part of the
3 funding sources for Dixon Athletics Budget this year. (Other 2 are
District and DSAB).
4.
Fundraising update
·
Jeff Dwelley provided update on Raffle progress:
·
Connect Ed message coming out this week from Principle
Chaidez or AD, Nick G regarding sales of the tickets.
·
Most teams are asking for a 1 week extension on selling
tickets. Football looking good. Cross Country, Water Polo asked for more
time.
·
Need to communicate the severity of the situation if all
tickets/funds are not raised.
·
We need to begin the discussion regarding pay to play
option if we do not max out ticket sales.
·
Friday night 9th Oct (Homecoming) we will set
up a booth again to sell any remaining tickets. Let Frances know if you
can man the ticket booth. Anita Ferguson volunteered.
·
Thursday night 4-7 pm (8th Oct) Float festival
opposite Buds – set up a booth there also to sell tickets. Darlene
volunteered to help staff the booth.
·
Ron DuPratt Ford drive for your school on Oct 2nd
– hit 300 target – raises $6000! 3 Service clubs had a challenge
between them to have more drivers!
·
Also had a $20 misc donation during the Drive.
·
Funds will go into the ASB Athletic account. As a side
note as a reminder the overall sports budget will be transparent between
ASB Athletic, DSAB and District will be fully tracked and reported to
all fund raising groups.
·
Cornerstone Church ran a Yard Sale last week (26th
Sept) and presented a check to Guy Sunday 4th October for
$400!
5. Treasurers Report
·
$16,760 in the Booster a/c after paying for the $2000
Transportation for Football
6.
Website update:
·
Maps to all CVC
locations available on web site. Other sports – let Steve know (coachstevedrew@aol.com)
·
Booster website – added
Student/Athletes
tab with links – PSAT, SAT dates… etc
·
Daily announcements
at DHS – Norma sending them to Steve who posts on the Football website.
Post to the Booster website also. Norma also trying to get them posted
on the DHS website.
AOB:
Wrestling coach asked Steve if any DSAB funds
available for tournaments. Each team needs to do individual fundraising
for events e.g. car wash, running their own tournaments, selling
sweatshirts, etc… for special tournament fees, equipment & uniforms
beyond what is there today. As a reminder, the Athletic budget for this
year (funded from 3 sources mentioned above) is to maintain and fund the
basic infrastructure needed to keep kids on the courts and on the fields
i.e. Facilities, League & officials fees, dues.
Regarding the safety issue raised at the last
meeting, are there any plans to address these issues during the ‘off
season’? Guy & Bill have said to Nick G that we need to walk the
facilities to understand what items need to be fixed? E.g. the
sprinklers on the main field, gravel on the softball fields etc. Steve
to set up meeting with Nick to arrange a facilities review meeting.

Regular Meeting –
Sunday 13th September, 7 pm
Meeting Minutes
Attendees: Bill Aubert, Alison Aubert, Steve
Drewnowski, Guy Garcia, Frances Garcia, Jeff Dwelley, Andrea Kett, Scott
Immel, Bob Silva, Darlene Silva, Sheri Luney, Coleen Tembrink, Anna
Deusenberry, Andy Kennedy
1.
Business Meeting
Approval of Minutes from 8/9/09 meeting – Motion
by Andy Kennedy, 2nd by Jeff Dwelley, carried unanimously to approve the
minutes.
2.
President’s/DUSD update
·
CAJ bleachers – Guy has been talking with Mark Sanchez
(parent) who volunteered to work on fixing the bleachers. Jason
Hofhenke, Jesus & Mark met to discuss how to move forward. Jesus
advises that you need a licensed contractor and bid to fix. Therefore
this would not enable us to allow volunteers to help in addition to Mark
to fix the bleachers. Going to move forward with a bid and continue to
discuss with the district to explore the options.
3.
Sports Operations Update
·
First week’s gate was ~$800 for soccer, water polo and
volleyball.
·
$4000 is required to fund Football transportation. DSAB
board feel it is appropriate to fund transportation for the game,
however, initially fund $2000 and then pay remaining $2000 based on 100%
participation in raffle.
·
Football does get a dollar for dollar return on the
fundraising money.
·
Andy Kennedy made a motion to approve the $2000 now and
then fund the rest when funds are received from the raffle, 2nd
by Anna Deusenberry. Carried unanimously.
·
Discussion: A question was raised around what the recent
Football team boot drive was raising money for? Answer: There is a lot
of additional expense in equipment which the QB Club have to fund
raise. In addition the ambulance for home games is going to be funded
50/50 by QB club and school.
4.
Fundraising update
·
Jeff Dwelley provided update on Raffle progress. All
tickets due out by the middle of this week. Football, Cross Country
(CAJ), Cheer do not yet have tickets.
·
JV Football has a pot luck Tuesday 6.30 pm at DHS – could
be used to hand out tickets, also doing a Football program potluck
behind the Dixon Florist Shop.
·
Friday night 18th Sept we could set up a booth
to sell tickets. Let Frances know if you can man the ticket booth.
Friday’s game is Alumni night at the game. This could also be used as
an opportunity for athletes to sell their tickets at the booth.
·
Guy met with Greg DuPratt last week, regarding another
Test Drive event on Oct 2nd, starting at 8 am. This will run
throughout the day until the Football game that night. Trying to do a
pre sign up to encourage people to remember. Leadership and athletes
will help to staff/run the event. Funds $20 per test drive up to a
maximum of $6000. Steve D will contact Norma to get a copy of the form
to put on the website, so that it could be filled out and brought to the
test drive.
·
Funds will go into ASB account – but in the interest of
transparency the overall sports budget is transparent between ASB, DSAB
and District will be fully tracked and reported to all fund raising
groups.
5.
Marketing update
6.
Website update:
Steve looking for coaches and schedules for CAJ
sports. Jeff will send details to Steve.
AOB:
School board candidate – Irina Okhremtchouk
approached boosters for endorsement for school board candidacy, but we
said we could not endorse as a Booster club without approval of the
members. Guy and Frances have met with her as individuals, but all the
members feel we should not get into endorsing school board candidates.
Anna mentioned seeing large banners advertising
local merchants hanging in the Gym at Pioneer. Possibly something we
could think about doing in Dixon?
Steve – would like to see the softball field and
baseball fields fixed with funds raised by DSAB. Safety issue but this
is not part of the athletic budget for this year. Existing budget does
not cover incremental items other than basic infrastructure. But is
this the DSAB’s responsibility to bring this up or whether the parents
should drive this with the school/AD?
The Cross country team worked Labor Day fun races…
how about a 5k or 10k race in Dixon – open to public? Cross country team
would help organize as DSAB fundraiser.

Meeting Minutes
Attendees: Bill Aubert, Alison Aubert, Steve

Stacy Dwelley
1.
Business Meeting
Approval of Minutes from 7/12/09 meeting – Motion
by Alison Aubert, 2nd by Jeff Dwelley, carried unanimously to approve
the minutes.
2.
President’s/DUSD update
·
Guy, Andy, Bill, Mike met with I.Chaidez, J.Hofhenke,
B.Dolan, N.Holtmeyer and new DHS AD – Nick Girimonte. Official
title/role of Nick Girimonte – Administrative Attendance Officer - 80%
and 20% - Athletic Director (DHS).
·
AD, Head Coaches and DSAB report to Principal Chaidez and
B.Dolan. Maintenance operations report to AD. Athletic secretary
responsible for paperwork, accounting.
·
DSAB – need to attend both sports meetings on the 11th
and 13th. DSAB needs to raise approx. $80k-$100k to augment
District budget.
General Message that needs to be
communicated is: ‘Sports are being funded, but not to the level that it
has been in the past. Therefore we are approaching this as a need to
fundraise the incremental funds required to maintain the athletic
programs within Dixon Schools. Fall back options are pay to play or no
sports at all.’
·
Alison recommended we prepare a few slides to provide a
consistent message of DSAB. What is DSAB, why are we doing the raffle?
We have a commitment to continue sports, but still work to be done.
Need to have brochures there and volunteer signups for DSAB.
·
Guy, Bill, Mike met to put proposed athletic budget
together for CAJ & DHS. DSAB & District want to present to school board
a total budget for the program. Goal to have budget in place by Sept 1st.
·
Question as to the validity of RES testing - $4k in the
budget, whether this is really a good use of funds, given that testing
is not always completed with external resource. Discuss with AD and
Principal Chaidez. Athletic policies still allow for testing if
required.
·
At CAJ – since there are currently no plans to pay
stipends for AD therefore no one stepping up to take on this position.
3.
Sports Operations Update
·
Water Polo coach now in place – Kraig Katzenmeyer,
schedule almost finalized.
·
No confirmation of Volleyball coach at CA Jacobs as yet.
4.
Fundraising update
·
Discussed raffle and expectations of coaches and
anticipated revenue from raffle. Band not likely to participate as
originally expected. Coaches should help to promote to their athletes
selling raffle tickets to support the athletic programs. Each athlete,
at CAJ and DHS, participating in a Fall sport will be asked to sell 10
tickets at $10 each. Prize is a $3000 ‘Dream Vacation’ where the winner
can work with our designated Travel Agent to design their own vacation!
·
Date for drawing of the Fall raffle: Nov 6th –
High School Senior night. This will allow us to use prior homecoming
game to sell more tickets.
·
Planning for Tuesday 11th and Thursday 13th
August to discuss and promote the raffle at the coaches meeting and
Parent/Athlete sports meeting, but not hand out the tickets at this
point.
·
Anna needs a team roster for each fall sport and
recommendation for team parent to coordinate raffle. Ask Sports
Operations to communicate this request to each coach.
5.
Marketing update
·
Can we get T-shirts or Polo shirts made? We can sell as a
fundraiser as well as to DSAB members to purchase for DSAB events. We
also need a banner for events. This would help identify Booster members
who are promoting the cause at specific events. Anna getting some
quotes and will circle back with the board members.
·
Need to promote our service clubs and travel agent. We
should ensure they are covered on the website and at specific events
they are helping to sponsor. Our 3 service clubs (Rotary, Lions and
Soroptomists) will have their logos on the raffle tickets.
·
Covered bulletin board now available by the band room at
DHS.
6.
Website update:
·
Steve sent emails to coaches asking for team info,
schedules to post on the site.
·
Can Marketing review the website to ensure that
information is correct?

1.

the minutes.
2.
4th July – Fundraising feedback
·
Raised $945 gross, predominantly from water sales at the
Demolition Derby.
·
Ran into some issues with the parking and having a
perimeter required around the ‘blast zone’ for the fireworks. This
prevented us from using half of the High School parking, although we
didn’t get many people wanting to park there for the Demo Derby, more
people came for the fireworks parking.
3.
Raffle/Fundraising Update
·
Anna and Jeff working on running this. Have a mock up of
the ticket, working with travel agent on ideas for positioning the
raffle, suggested something along the lines of ‘Your Dream Vacation’.
·
Provides a dollar amount that can be used for the winner
to determine the trip they want to take.
·
We will send out the mock up of the ticket for review.
·
Goal is to have the tickets ready for Sports Meeting/RES
testing on Aug 11th. Sell during short window – 4-5 week
timeframe. Permit process started by Andrea. Sponsor for the tickets
pays for the production of the tickets.
·
Band are also participating – adds ~200 students selling
tickets. Approx total ~400 students – projection to raise $40,000 net.
·
Drive through AD’s to coaches and sport/team reps.
·
Do not know the date of the drawing for Fall & Spring,
target homecoming in the fall, date to be confirmed and May Fair in the
Spring.
Golf Tournament update
·
Guy checked with Yolo fliers – over 60 players it would be
$90/player (70 + 20 golf/food). Under 60 – no food required $60 for
golf – includes cart and balls.
·
Jason thinks we should aim for the spring or towards end
of FY09/10 school year, have really big tournament and then have big
dinner, as opposed to October. October way too soon to organize a big
enough tournament to raise a significant amount of money. Maybe look to
incorporate other groups (eg. QB club) so we don’t overlap with other
groups also wanting to do a golf tournament.
·
Members agreed to not run golf tournament in fall – plan
this for the spring. Think about offering scholarships at the dinner.
Other
·
Jason’s company have come up with a fundraiser associated
with selling copiers to support DSAB. Flyer to be posted on the
website.
·
Jason brought up licensed product sales – selling Dixon
logo’d merchandise at Wal-Mart (via NFHS). May conflict with other
teams who sell their own merchandise as a team fundraiser.
4.
Sports Operations Update
·
No AD’s in place as yet. Candidates identified, to be
finalized before school begins in Aug.
·
Jason Gray finalizing checks to be Head coach for
Volleyball.
·
Cross country still unconfirmed position
·
Water Polo in the fall – without AD, coach and assistant
making their own schedule
·
We are going to provide a budget template for each coach
to provide Budget. This should be driven via AD’s.
·
QB Club selling an all season football pass. Special
pricing for all home games for the season, plus preferred seating.
Various levels of pricing will be available.
5.
AOB
6.
Steve, raised, how do we address items at the school that need to
be fixed – e..g baseball field surface. Should be driven via the AD to
determine priorities. Figure our shortfall and then look to request
funds to DSAB if appropriate.
7.
Bill please send list of coaches email to Steve to post on the
website.

General Sports Meeting Summary
·
Feedback from the meeting and in general is that
teacher/coaches are 100% behind us. Teachers Union is asking coaches
not to cross the line without Stipend.
·
Different view as a coach – it’s for the kids. Union
doesn’t seem to fully understand or communicate to the teacher/coaches
how dire the budget situation is.
·
Many people leaving the sports meeting originally thought
our purpose was to pay the coaches.
·
Good # of people at the meeting willing to volunteer –
we’ll see.
·
Public in general think School Board sitting back and
capitalizing on DSAB. Tried to emphasize that this going to be a long
term commitment, the problem is not going away anytime soon. We have a
lot of things to fund now, but also for 5 years+ hence, besides
stipends. If the program isn’t funded, there’s no need for stipends.
Building the Budget:
·
School Board have stated they will pay for $38,170 – AD
Prep, AD Secretary, Certificated Sub
·
They’ll keep the lights on, maintenance, custodial and
safety equipment.
·
Major cuts apart from Stipends, DHS Site/Dept Budget, AD
Contingency, Transportation.
·
Priority one: to get two AD’s in place. They have started
talking to some individuals. No commitments at this point that we are
aware of.
·
Priority two: Need an athletic budget from each coach –
this is a must have, because without this we have no idea of knowing
what needs funding. We need to build an overall budget showing costs
and then ensure source of funding regardless of whether it comes from
district, DSAB or team fund raising. Budget should include their
fundraising plans as we don’t want to get in the way of this.
3.
Finance
·
Balance on account is $17,072.88
·
Two checks in the mail for $100 ea. in memory of Bob
Nickum & Tony Giannoni
4.
Committee Updates
Sports Operations
·
Guy to attend 4th of July meeting on Tuesday
16th
Fundraising
·
Donor letters have been sent out.
·
Soroptomist gave us a travel agent contact to put together
a dream trip for 2. Check into insurance for a trip, to provide an
option if the winner wants to give the money back so we’re not stuck
with a trip.
·
Probably split Hall of Fame and Golf Tournament into two
items.
·
Is it too late for a Golf Tournament in the fall – say
October? Jason thinks it’s very aggressive timeline; we need to meet
soon. Jason will try to pull a meeting together this week of Golf
tournament volunteers.
·
NorCal sports – calling about a fund raiser with DSAB…
recruiting, education about scholarships – would like to make an
appointment to present to DSAB regarding their program
·
Blankets – have received a sample plush blanket which
could be custom designed for Dixon Sports. Qty of 300 @ $40 ea would
net ~$5000 profit. Could be pre-sold. Do DSAB want to run this as a
fund raiser, or possible opportunity for a team fundraiser.
Marketing & Publicity
·
Can we use the Connect Ed phone system promoting the fact
that sports are reinstated and our summer activities?
DUSD Liaison
·
Covered during Sports meeting summary.
Website
·
If you have anything you need to update on the web please
send to Steve Drewnowski.
5.
Other Business
·
D&O insurance estimate was $1800, Guy will investigate to
see if they can get this reduced.
·
Move general DSAB meeting to monthly at Bud’s – next
meeting July 12th
·
Have Board meeting every month on the opposite two weeks –
next meeting June 28th
·
Coaches for Fall sports are in place pending confirmation
of Volleyball. Cross Country is the only sport we believe is not
covered at this point.

School Board Update
·
School Board officially recognized by Dixon School
District as fundraising non-profit organization during May 7th
meeting.
·
Only one concern raised by the School Board was regarding
adherence to the State Education Code, would like to see the Bylaws of
the Booster Club(s) (including Football Boosters) updated to reflect Ed
Code compliance relative to fund raising activities.
3.
Committee Updates
Sports Operations
·
Parking for the May Fair raised $5117.90 / 2 = net
$2558.95 ea. for DSAB & Band.
·
Band participation was excellent, well run, but several
lessons learned to improve next time. Great job Shaina, many thanks,
good working with you!
·
DSAB also looking to run the 4th July (one day)
parking (DSAB only).
·
Dean wanted to thank Bill specifically for being at the
parking for 100% of the time. Dean also had $10 + $20 additional
dollars contributed from folks during the Fair which was given to Andrea
– Thank You!
·
We definitely need better signage in the future and
publicize as a FUNDRAISER well ahead of time. The feedback from many
people was that if they knew it was a fundraiser they have made a point
of parking there.
·
The May Fair mentioned they would like to direct Livestock
Auction attendees to park at the High School next year, but we didn’t
have enough time to connect with auction organizers ahead of time this
year.
·
Steve brought up the fact that we need to reach out to all
parents to ask for volunteers for fund raising events. It was noted
that the ConnectEd voicemail from I.Chaidez was very effective in
promoting the May Fair parking. In an ad hoc survey during the May Fair
parking, 70% of people parking at High School said they heard about the
parking via the voicemail messages.
·
DSAB would like to have a representative attend each of
the sports kick off meetings to educate and promote all parents about
DSAB and the fundraising events where we need participation!
Fundraising
·
Andy Bloom would like to hold agility clinic either – Aug
8th, 15th, 22nd, 27th. This
would be for grade levels 12-18 (Middle – High School). Need to get an
idea of cost – probably $30-$50 for one day agility. No date was picked
but should bear in mind back to school and Fall sports.
·
Guy asked for a volunteer to be the Committee Chairman for
the Raffle – one of our major fundraisers for 2009-2010 school year.
·
The Chairman will NOT do all the work, but select a
committee of volunteers to help.
·
None of the attendees at this meeting volunteered, so we
still have a need for this.
·
There was also a call for a Committee Chairman required
for Hall of Fame Event
§
Golf Tournament -
§
Dinner
§
Donations for Auction/Raffle
·
No volunteers initially stepped forward, but then Jason
Gray, a new DSAB attendee, whose daughter is a Varsity Volleyball player
for DHS, mentioned that he had experience of organizing Golf Tournaments
for the Salvation Army. We will need volunteers to work with Jason to
form committees to manage the activities for this event.
·
Guy suggested the Board approve the Chair of each event
committee.
·
Need to send a communication via the Facebook community in
Dixon and the parents regarding DSAB and sports team parents list.
·
4th July Parking Committee Chair – Bill Aubert
Next 4th of July meeting is May 26th
7 pm next Fair meeting in Madden Hall. DSAB are slated to also
sell water during the Demolition Derby. Could contact Friends of Fair
regarding joint marketing.
·
Have the Marketing Committee contact to investigate if we
want to promote parking at DHS.
·
Corporate Sponsorship: The general consensus is for DSAB
to begin soliciting corporate sponsorship. We need to determine what it
would be used for – i.e. should we specify usage?
·
Do we determine levels or let companies determine the
amount?
·
Where do we promote the corporate sponsorship?
Finance
·
Balance on account is $13,540.80 (includes $1000 for
Raffle from Rotary which needs to be kept separate)
·
We still need to collect $1000 from Lions
·
Don’t believe we have received the ~$1600 from the Bud’s
fund raiser on May 4
·

Fundraising
Main fund raising events being planned:
·
Raffle – need to assign a committee to run the raffle.
Rich Bedoya should be involved since he’s driving fund raising. Sports
Operations will be involved to get all coaches to get their athletes
involved in selling tickets. Anna has information from previous raffle

·
Hall of Fame Dinner/Golf Tournament to be timed around
Homecoming. Have Chair/Co-Chair and Sub Committees to be formed to
manage Golf, Dinner and prizes/auction. Decide on auction, timing etc.
·
4th of July event – too late to do Poker run,
also decided that we would not have time to sign up sufficient parent
helpers as it takes a lot of people to run. Possibly get kids selling
water at 4th July event/Derby. Fair opens at 11am and then
fireworks at about 9.15pm. We have opportunity to also run parking at
this event also. Discuss and finalize plan at next meeting. Next

School board at School Meeting on May 7th (at
Tremont) – to be ‘recognized’ by the School Board. Sponsorship from the
school (DHS – I.Chaidez). Provided Bylaws for DSAB. AR 1230 – series of
9 questions. If we are able to meet these commitments we can keep kids
on the fields and on the courts. Presentation has been with I.Chaidez
and School Board for 2 weeks.
·
We have been trying to obtain a $ figure from the District
which would give us an idea of what it would take to ‘keep the lights
on’ for sports in Dixon. Don’t think we’ll get a number – budget
situation is still too fluid. Clearly District does not want sports to
be cancelled – but District still maintaining the same information
regarding categorical and non-categorical funds until revised budget
announced.

Dixon Tribune expressed interest in doing a full page article – Briana
Boyd, Annemarie to contact Briana to follow up.
Need to develop flyer/brochure on DSAB to explain
what we do, fundraising goals and what the funds will be used for.
Stacy pointed out that many school boards are in
the same situation and this is getting more attention with legislature
than normal. Opportunity to leverage for PR purposes.
Polo shirt with DSAB name or logo - when we go to
specific events and make available to purchase for all members also.
Work through the ASB group – Lauren Lyons.
DSAB like to develop a logo / graphic identity –
should we develop a separate logo or use Rams & Cougar logo. Brandy has
a contact who offered to develop some ideas to be presented at next

3.
Workshop Update
Andy Kennedy gave a summary of the School Board
workshop held on March 26th. Roger Halberg still gathering
information on what can and cannot be used out of flex funding. Waiting
for further budget information from State. There is a chance of
additional funding, but still need to see what comes from Federal level
– due mid May. Preference is to not to close another elementary
school. 2nd priority is to keep extracurricular activities
such as Athletics. Class size reduction also a priority. Basically
still a long way from getting a definitive answer to what may be funded
next year. Community and DSAB encouraged to continue giving input and
work with the School District.
Dean mentioned that KOVR picked up some
information from the Workshop which appears to have been mis-quoted.
Stacy stressed importance of the ensuring the messaging is consistent
about DSAB.
The mechanism of moving funds from DSAB to school
funds needs to be clarified by DUSD Liaison Committee. Need very clear
expectations given to the schools of how and what funds will be used
for.
Some funds may be channeled through ASB and some
may move through General fund. Need to have complete transparency.
4.
Other Business
Sign in sheet circulated – members asked to
indicate their preference for publication of their phone number on the
contact list.
Brandy: Flea Market – Downtown Dixon Business
Association – look into this as fundraising opportunity.
Additional fundraising idea to solicit local
service providers to offer services, catering, plumbing etc and donate
profit to DSAB
Mike Barrett expressed concern that we need to be
sensitive to all other groups in town who are also fundraising for many
other good causes. We need to focus on a few strategic events that
raise funds for what we need. Be careful not to ‘over fund raise’.
Action: Andy & Guy to obtain a $ figure from Roger
that will enable us to continue sports so that we can set a $ figure
goal for DSAB.
What is the deadline for Mayfair parade entry?
Action: Marketing committee will investigate and
involve the team reps.

Aubert, Rich Bedoya
3.
Fundraising
Members suggested ideas for future fundraising
events which will be evaluated further by the Fundraising Committee and
updates will be brought back to the members at a later date. A
summary of the ideas as follows:
·
Alison Aubert: Andy Bloom (husband of head coach at Solano
College) is a world class athlete – placed 4th at the Sydney
Olympics in the Discus. He has offered to run a speed and agility
clinic for school athletes during the summer and donate funds to DSAB.
We could also possibly sell associated items such as cones, agility
ladders etc. to augment funds. Andy’s wife may also run a softball
clinic and maybe a baseball clinic.
·
Della Sorenson: Suggested we look at having a booth at
Mayfair, could we get this at no charge? A further suggestion was to
enter a float in the Mayfair parade and ask if we can solicit donations
during the parade.
Concern was expressed if
this would conflict with the other youth organizations that participate
in the parade. Since they participate but do not solicit
donations.
·
Steve Cauchi: Recommends doing an e-waste event.
Steve contacted a company who does this. We could look at doing
this in early Fall, shortly after the schools go back. 100% of the
proceeds would go to DSAB!
·
Brandy Hensley: Would like to leverage local
connections to Nick Watney and consider doing a golf tournament.
Perhaps obtain signed memorabilia from Nick etc. John Rotteveel
knows Nick personally and would be happy to contact him on our behalf.
·
Brandy Hensley: 4th July Friends of Fair –
targeted for Non Profit organizations – like to do the Poker Day.
Meeting on March 24th, further update at next meeting.
Potential to earn up to $40k. Dean Miner noted that it takes a lot
of work/manpower to run this kind of event.
·
Darlene Silva: Suggested putting a table at the
Farmer’s market in the fall.
·
Andy Kennedy: Dixon Hall of Fame idea, host a dinner
which would recognize Dixon athletic alumni. Steve Cauchi
experienced this at a previous school where they ran an Alumni weekend
consisting of Golf Tournament, combined with Hall of Fame dinner.
Would work well if timed around Homecoming potentially.
·
Dean Miner: Dixon fitness will donate partial membership
fee to Dixon Sports – the sign is up already outside their Gym!
·
Potentially offer the name of the Dixon High football
field as a sponsorship opportunity. Need to discuss our overall
corporate sponsorship plan following ratification of DSAB.
·
Bill Aubert: Asked about the opportunity to run parking
for the Mayfair using the high school parking lot. Bill will reach out
to Ivan Chaidez to enquire about this. Bill estimates approx 620 parking
spaces.
·
Steve Ferguson: Suggested running a 3 on 3 Basketball
tournament and free throw-a- thon.
·
Rich Bedoya: Ron DuPratt Ford will be running a
‘test drive’ event on April 24th at the High School.
Ford has advertising funds that can be dedicated to fundraising
activities. Ford will donate $20 for every test drive up to a total of
$6000 (only 300 test drives!) which they have decided to donate to DSAB!
This event has already been approved by Ivan Chaidez & the School Board.
This date coincides with a home a baseball game and so should provide
additional ‘traffic and potential test drivers’ to the event.
Steve will utilize DSAB website to publicize the event -
www.dixonboosterclub.org.
·
Last but not least we left the best update until last and
had a Boot Drive update from Alison Aubert: Saturday’s total:
$3844.20, Sunday’s total: 3909.00 - Total $7754.00. There was still some
lose change to count, so expected final Total to be ~ $7800! Great
Job everyone! Key to any successful event is to get the coaches
engaged. The student athletes love to help; once they got there
they had a blast. KOVR (Channel 13) covered the event on Sunday at the
downtown (Bud’s) location. Andy Kennedy handed Brandy 3 business cards
collected from the Boot Drive on March 21st & 22nd
from local businesses who offered to be involved in future fundraising
activities:
Ted Siefert – Car Wash,
Justin Jeffrey – Gold Canyon Candles, Grilling/Food Prep Business – no
name provided
Annemarie DelMugnaio
(Marketing committee chair) will submit a Thank You letter including
some photos to the Tribune, thanking the community for it’s support.
4.
Other Business
·
Scott Hagstrom: Commented that at DYB talking to several
parents, there is a lack of information / knowledge of DSAB. He’d
like to see us get the word out to the community and especially the rec.
leagues and events.
Once we have installed
officers and are approved by the School District, then we will begin
more aggressive marketing activities. The Marketing committee
expressed they would like to have more help from members in helping to
promote DSAB. Talk to Annemarie DelMugnaio, Stacy Dwelley or Anna
Deusenberry if interested!
·
Guy & Andy now need to meet with Ryan Chalk at The
Reporter to provide a more detailed update on DSAB for a further article
in The Reporter.
·
Thursday 26th March at 6pm – Dixon School Board
holding a workshop open to the public at the School District office to
discuss District Goals and 2009-2010 Budget Cut Review, including
feedback on the recent survey .
·

Time: 4pm – 9pm
·
Guy asked that we show appreciation to the staff at Bud’s
by leaving a tip following our Sunday night meetings, since the facility
