DUSD - School Board

May 7, 2009

The DUSD Meeting on May 7, 2009 discussed

the following sports related subjects:

DSAB Recognition by the School Board

QB Club Recognition by the School Board

ADA costs associated with not having sports.

Discussions involving DSAB & QB Club recognition included:

Student groups have to be pre-approved

- both groups completed the appropriate paperwork and are "Approved".

Events scheduled on school grounds have to meet DUSD policies

and therefore require approval from the school

- no changes from previous policy.

DUSD can rescind its tie with either organization in the future

- highly unlikely, but it needed to be included with the approval.

If either organization does something in conflict with DUSD policy

- DUSD should not be held liable.

Discussions involving ADA costs included:

The loss of 100 student-athletes would be

approximately $600,000 of ADA monies lost from the state.

To determine the net costs of keeping those student-athletes,

the number of Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) teachers retained

would also have to be included.

Non-sports related subjects included:

DUSD voted to NOT close an elementary school during the 2009-2010 school year.

Layoffs for DUSD teachers were approved - individual notification begins on Monday.

Negotiations with the teachers' union and retaining sports will affect the final numbers.

DUSD has 60 days to determine the status of the Montessori School charter.

School lunches will increase 25 cents next school year.

The May 21st workshop is scheduled to take place at DUSD.
